The Raspberries: The Raspberries - 1972

I felt the same about The Raspberries as I felt about fellow "power pop" group Big Star.

They were fronted by Eric "All By Myself" Carmen (I didn't know that for ages), an incongruous band for 1972 who burst on the scene with a superbly riffy pop rock classic in the first cut on their first album, Go All The Way, but, once again - and I stress that this is just me - I feel the album just doesn't ever quite match up as it continues.

By the end I've had enough. Rock 'n' Roll Mama and Get It Moving are ok I guess, in among Carmen's wishy-washy stuff, but overall the album isn't as much to my taste as I expected it to be.
